How did the climate contribute to the space race in general?
The cold war started during 1947 all the way to 1991, it commenced straight after the second world war. The cold war was essentially a situation where countries had political disagreements, military apprehension and it was a situation when proxy wars have reached their peaks between the Western Bloc, the US, the US’s NATO allies, the soviet union and its allies in the Warsaw pact and other powers in the Eastern Bloc. Both sides were apprehensive of each other as they engaged in an arms race. The cold war made the US and USSR send rockets and goods to space, then the space race began. The space race occurred during 1955 - 1972, it was stiff antagonism which existed only in the US and USSR during the 20th century. They competed with each other to obtain supremacy in space exploration. The rivalry started the launch of artificial satellites into space, which then evolved to sending unmanned spaceflights to the moon, venus and mars. Human mission began undertaking to the earth’s orbit as well as the moon. A space policy began to form in the US during the 1950’s, which then made the USSR wary of the US and wanted to counter the prospect that the US might succeed in the space race. After that, the US and USSR began developing long range weapons to strike each other’s territory. What inventions were included in the space race?

Sputnik 1
Even though everybody was expecting the US to inaugurate, the Soviet Union managed to surprise the world with the launch of Sputnik 1. Sputnik 1 is the world's first artificial satellite, which launched on Oct 4. The sputnik 1 was launched during 1975 from a Tyuratam Launch base in Kazakh Republic. Even though it did not have any scientific equipment, it still gave scientists a lot of information. Sputnik 1 launched to coincide with the International Geophysical Year. The US did fear the the launch of Sputnik 1 had sinister motives, this is because the US were behind the Soviet Union in space technology. The Soviet Union managed to make Sputnik 1 10 times bigger than the proposed US satellite, which caused the US to begin the space race.
